>>> earlier we asked, during
another major league
championship series, a similar
case of fan involvement
occurred.
Which team benefited from that?
The answer, the new york
yankees.
In game one of the 1996 american
league championship series, new
york's derek jeter hit a fly
ball to deep right field.
A 12 year-old fan reached over
the fence and knocked the ball
away from oreoles outfielder
tony torasco.
The umpire ruled it was a home
run and new york went on to win
the game and the series.
>>> Who can forget that?
They haven't reached the world
series since 1945.
They haven't won it since 1908.
Can you say the chicago cubs are
cursed.
You can also say they choked.
Losing three straight to the new
national league champs, the
florida marlins.
The boston red sox meantime with
r battling their own demons.
They sold babe ruth to the new
york yankees.
Tonight they can certainly
settle the score.
Danny habib from sports
illustrated is joining us live
from yankee stadium.
First, chicago.
Is there a curse in chicago?
What's going on over there?
>> It must be something in the
water.
Because dusty baker and his
players did a terrific job all
postseason long of defrecting
questions about the curse and
insisting history had nothing to
do with what was going wrong in
chicago.
That all changed in the eighth
inning last night.
I think now the discussion of a
curse resurfaces because when
what we see defies logic,
they'll retreat to superstition
to explain it.
>> You couldn't make this kind
of stuff up.
Hollywood is already talking
about making a movie about that
young guy who interfered
effectively with that fly ball,
that foul ball.
They're thinking of making a
movie about that.
You can't make this kind of
stuff up.
Can you?
>> No.
This is art imitating life, i
suppose.
It's the kind of ending we could
only expect from the cubs.
We discussed earlier in the week
when they were ahead 3-1 it
would take a collapse of
cub-like proportions to lose.
Clearly they followed through on
their legacy.
>> If boston beats the yankees
tonight, how big of a deal is
that in baseball history?
>> In baseball his sfli well, i
mean the red sox have been to
the world series a few more
times than the cubs.
They've had better success.
They've tended to go to the
precipice of success before
rapidly turning back rather than
avoiding it all together as the
cubs have done.
It would and start.
It would be the first time since
1986 the red sox have been
there.
It would be a terrific match-up
against the team that's been
existing -- in existence for
less time than the marlins.
>> Marlins fans are being being
forgotten.
Yankees got a tremendous amount
of publicity.
Boston.
Florida seems to have come out
of nowhere.
What happened there?
>> Sort of a confluence of a
couple of factors.
One is the presence of jack
mckeen who is 72 and manages the
marlins.
He's a very chaurping guy and
motivates his players well.
They have a couple of players in
pudge rodriguez, for example,
eligible for free agency and
playing for the contracts of
their lives.
They feel like they've caught
lightning in a about thele.
They look at themselves in a
mirror and feel they can't do
anything wrong.
I think that's the reason.
>> Danny habib is going to be
watching the game up close and
personal over at yankee stadium.
The rest of us can watch it on
television.
Thanks for joining us.
>> My pleasure.

Excerpt From The Cone Head Movie

Marlax! Marlax!
Marlax! Marlax!
Marlax! Marlax!
Greetings, beldar.
We haven't heard from you.
I'm glad you're still active.
Greetings, marlax.
You've enslaved the planet
and are awaiting instructions?
Mmm...Unanticipated
failure of mentanglian drive
caused us to abandon our vessel
in a fluid mass.
When might we expect a rescue vessel?
Rescue vessel?
You tahpath!
When the high master hears of your failure,
he will not take it lightly.
A star cruiser
will enter your solar system
in about...Seven zerls.
Seven zerls? Seven zerls?
Pluget! Remulak! Narpel!
Oh! Oh!
Seven...Zerls?
Beldar, there is something we should discuss
that is far more important than planetary conquest.
What--what could be more important
than planetary conquest?
Beldar, i am with cone.
You?
I?
A young one?
Affirmative.
